Anguilla’s Amateur Radio Society membership continues to grow with the latest addition of seven new ham radio operators. Following a three month intensive training programme and examination at the club station in the Valley – the following persons were successful : Malcolm Webster (VP2EMW), Enascio Harrigan (VP2ECH), Shekera Greaves (VP2ESY), Chevel Lee (VP2ECA), Josephine Brudey (VP2EJB), Arnold Francis (VP2EKF), and Kawahon Duncan (VP2EKD). Special mention is made of Shekera Greaves, a third form student at the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School (ALHSC) and at age 14, is the youngest amateur radio operator on the island. The new ham radio operators recently picked up their amateur radio licences from Mr Damien Harrigan, Telecoms Officer for the Government of Anguilla. Mr Harrigan used the opportunity to brief the operators about the local and international telecom laws governing amateur radio activity. The trainers for the programme were Larry Stott (VP2EL), Elrick Paul (VP2EP), Teddy Edwards (VP2ETE) and Keith Stone Greaves (VP2EKG).
Meanwhile, the Amateur Radio club, at its latest general meeting held on Saturday May 14th at the Red Cross building, members elected Elrick Paul (VP2EP) as the new president replacing Keith Stone Greaves (VP2EKG) who did not seek re-election after more than seven years as the head of the radio society of Anguilla. Veteran amateur radio operator Quincy Harrigan (VP2EQH) is the vice president, Jasmine Connor (VP2EJA) was returned as Secretary, Vernon Hodge (VP2EVH) also unanimously returned as Treasurer; with Trevor Queeley (VP2ETQ) voted in as the Equipment Officer. Mr Paul, while thanking members for their support, noted that he was accepting the position with a”heavy heart” having served in the leadership role for a long time. His deputy Mr Harrigan promised to work hard to further increase the membership of the radio club and bring back some of the former ham radio operators. Both Mr Hodge and Mr Queeley also pledged their unwavering support to the club and its members.
