Optimist Club of Anguilla Hosts First ever ‘Kids Speak Out’ Competition

The Valley, Anguilla, 6 April 2016: On Wednesday 30th March 2016, 12 primary school students participated in the first annual Optimist Kids Speak Out competition. Students aged 6 to 10 years old, were actively engaged in 2-3 minute speeches on the topic; “How my best brings out the best in others.”

Students were representatives of the Valley Primary (VPS), Adrian T Hazell Primary (ATHPS), and the Vivian Vanterpool Primary School (VVPS). These students were: Sekani Reid, Tia Webster, Iyesha Carty, Tahjani Brooks and Rayana Webster of Valley Primary; Nakia Carty-Romney, Camoran Hall, Myah-Michelle Romney and Malachi Hughes of Adrian T Hazell Primary and Roque Smith, Ronylah Webster and Nylah Jno Baptiste of the Vivian Vanterpool Primary School.

Unfortunately, there was no representation from the Alwyn Allison Richardson Primary, Morris Vanterpool Primary or the Orelia Kelly Primary; however there is hope that they will be represented in the next competition.

Ms Michelle Queeley, well known orator & teacher, applauded all speakers for their work and advised them in ways to improve for possible future contests. Ms Vanessa Croft-Thompson, one of the judges, also commended all participants highly for their presentation skills, and gave welcomed constructive criticism.

At the end of the contest, the results were as follow:

1st Place – Rayana Webster (VPS)
2nd Place – Tahjani Brooks (VPS)
3rd Place – Tia Webster (VPS)
The Optimist Club of Anguilla & the Kids Speak Out organising committee wishes to express sincere thanks to all the students for their outstanding performances, parents & teachers who aided in their preparations, Judges Ms Vanessa Croft-Thompson & Ms Sandra Fahie. Special thanks are also extended to the sponsors, Professional Driving School, Hi-Tek Signs & Designs, Cedar Car Wash & Mr. Richards, for their contributions towards prizes for the winners and tokens for all participants.
