The Anguilla Animal Rescue Foundation partnered with AMSA (American Medical Students Association) of St James School of Medicine for a successful puppy wash held at the medical school. It also featured educational material about parasites including fleas, ticks and heartworm, the importance of vaccinations to prevent parvo and distemper as well as offering flea/tick shampoo for sale & free vouchers for spay/neuter surgeries.
The student, members of AMSA donated $75 from the sales of baked goods, as well as hot dogs at the event. AMSA is the oldest and largest independent association of physicians-in-training in the United States. It’s a national organization that is student governed. The goal of AMSA is to provide quality, affordable health care for all. The AMSA chapter in Anguilla is committed to assiting the community and giving back as much as it is able to do in the form of fundraisers and/or time.
Another volunteer organization, Cover2Cover, a free book lending club at SJSM for students who have trouble affording their textbooks, also assisted and donated funds to AARF as well.
In addition to this event AMSA students also volunteer at the AARF Shelter, foster puppies or kittens that are too young to be adopted, transport puppies to the United States and adopt as well. The Anguilla Animal Rescue Foundation is extremely grateful for all that the students give to the community and their continued support of AARF in helping to make Anguilla a better place for the animals.
