In committing to a series of parental sessions ,the principal and staff of the Vivien Vanterpool Primary School (VVPS), ventured out in what they referred to as ‘ a one of a kind parental session’.

The session was held in an ‘open-air’ fashion, in The Keys, Island Harbour. Parents and community members had the opportunity to engage in discussion on ‘Skill Building’ which was presented by Ms. Monique Rey, the featured speaker.
Ms. Rey focused on two critical skills namely: communication and coping skills. In her presentation she reinforced that one of the ways to abate conflict, which is ever so prevalent within our society, is through effective communication. Through the use of authentic examples she sought to demonstrate how good communication skills influence effective problem-solving and results in wise decision-making skills. It is hoped that the parents will continue to model those skill as well as educate others. The session culminated with eats, drinks and community interaction.

The principal and staff of the Vivien Vanterpool Primary School wish to extend sincere thanks to Ms. Monique Rey, Mr. Rock ‘Rocky’ Lake, Mr. Trevor ‘Animal’ Weeks, Mr. Luther Bryan, Mr. Roger Smith, the parents and the community for making the evening a success. “It takes a community to raise a child.”
