In setting up its own Compliance Association, Anguilla will be following in the steps of a number of well -known financial services jurisdictions in the Caribbean region, who have already set up such Associations. Among others, these are Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, BVI, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Curacao and Trinidad and Tobago. It is also proposed that the Anguilla Association would become a member of the Caribbean Regional Compliance Associations.
Membership will be open to all licensed financial services firms and their compliance officers as well as individual members and students, who are either following an existing compliance course of study or are interested in compliance as a career.
The Association will benefit members by providing the necessary information, training and exposure to best practices to ensure that they can comply and maintain the required standards of financial services compliance. Just as importantly the Association will provide an open forum for sharing information and providing an interface between the members representing the industry and the regulatory bodies and law enforcement agencies to discuss issues and problems. In a courtesy visit to the Anguilla Financial Services Commission, its director, Mr. Gerry Halischuk, welcomed the existence of the Association and looked forward to working with it in the future.
At the first meeting of the Council of the new Anguilla Compliance Association held on Thursday 3rd March a number of basic issues to set the Association up and running were put in place, including membership, the proposed Constitution of the Association and confirmation of the officers of the Council of the Association.
According to Mr. John Lawrence, the Chairman of the new Association, this move will serve as an important step in developing Anguilla’s financial services industry, not only within Anguilla but also adding to its reputation worldwide.
Membership forms and details of payment can be obtained in the first instance from the Treasurer, Mr Lonnie Hobson, at e-mail: hobson.lonnie@yahoo.com or tel: 1 264 476 4428 or by sending an e-mail to Anguillacompliance association@hotmail.com.
