The Department of Social Development has released its full slate of activities in observance of Social Work month 2016, under the theme, “Forging Solutions out of Challenges.’ Following a mini-golf evening on Saturday12 March, the staff gathered for worship at the Church of God Holiness on Sunday where Pastor Gumbs encouraged the staff to be conscious of their identify always striving to run with lions and fly with eagles even as they face challenges in the delivery of services. .
Tuesday, 15th March is Social Work Day. Coinciding with this is/was the commencement of a daily quiz on Radio Anguilla following the morning local news, Monday 14 to Friday 18 March. The questions for the quiz are based on the history and work of the department of Social Development.
According to the planning committee:
The department deeply appreciates the sponsorship of the quiz by some local business houses, namely Vanterpool Services, Lake’s Market Place, JW Proctors, Ocean Breeze Apartments and Best Buy Supermarket. Winners will receive a food voucher valued at EC$100.00 daily.
The department encourages the involvement of the public in this activity and hopes that it will prove an educational and rewarding exercise for all.
Also during this week will be a soup kitchen on Friday 18th March, 11:30 to 12:30pm. This is in its third year and has been the brainchild of Social Worker Mr James Carty.
Meanwhile the general public is asked to note that Tuesday 15th March is Social Work Day and the department will be closed from 12noon to facilitate the Social Workers involvement in an afternoon motivational session. Normal services will resume on Wednesday 16th March, at 8:00a.m.
