Top performing executives, with Hortonworks, a business computer software company in California, near San Fransisco, on a four-day stay at Viceroy Anguilla, have come together to support education on the island. In that regard they presented a quantity of backpacks containing various classroom supplies to students at the Adrian T. Hazell Primary School.
“As part of our culture, we feel very privileged to be able to spend a couple of days on the island as a group, at such a wonderful resort, and we feel it is important to give back to, and participate, in the community.” That was said by the President of Hortonworks, Mr. Herb Cunitz, at the presentation ceremony. As we thought about the different things we could do for the island, we felt we should give back to education in a way that could be useful and of value to the children. We felt that education is always a good cause to support.”
The visiting group comprised some thirty executives who qualified for the trip, and their spouses – about another thirty persons. “We have about 850 people in the company and roughly about 5% qualified for the trip based on their performance,” Mr. Cunitz explained. “These are the strongest people, the top formers, in the company. We settled in very well in Anguilla. It is a very beautiful island and the people are very friendly and helpful. All of us had a very good time, enjoying this wonderful resort of Viceroy and also all of what the island offers – the local restaurants and the people.”
Mr. Peron Supersaud, Viceroy’s Director of Rooms, was privileged to have worked closely with Ms. Nikera Rogers, Events Manager, to ensure that the presentation ceremony had taken place. “I would like to thank very much Hortonworks for this initiative,” he stated. “One of our mandates is to make a considerable difference in the community. Thank you for recognising this and partnering with us. We really appreciate it.”
Anguilla’s Chief Education Officer, Mrs. Rhonda Connor, speaking on behalf of the Ministry and the children, thanked the group for their contribution to education. She was also grateful to Viceroy for its assistance in making the presentation a reality.
Mrs. Susan Best-Richardson, wife of Mr. Curtis Richardson, Elected Representative for Road South, where the Adrian T. Hazell Primary School is located. The Principal, Mrs. Tracelyn Hamilton and Mikail Carty, President of the Student Council, also thanked the group for the school supplies.
