The Anguilla Government, through the Ministry of Social Development, is pushing ahead with an undertaking to develop a modern health facility for the island. There were discussions to that end during an official visit to Health City Cayman, and now a team from that organisation is due in Anguilla to continue talks and to visit the proposed site, among other matters.

Mr. Evans McNiel Rogers, Minister of Social Development, elaborated on the forthcoming visit. “Early next week a team from Health City Cayman will be visiting Anguilla,” he told media representatives. “Several months ago, I led a team from Anguilla to Health City Cayman to look at the modern-day medical facilities in place there geared towards tourism. The CEO and Director of Thompson’s Development Group will be here. Dr. Chandy Abraham, the Director of Medical Services/Chief Medical Officer tasked with the responsibility of the medical side of Health City Cayman, will also be here. The Designer and Architect of that particular project will also be coming to Anguilla. They will be on the island from Sunday March 13 -16.”

The Minister further said: “We are having an extensive programme for them. They will meet with us, as a Government and the Health Authority. They will tour the island and the Designer and Architect will be having a look to determine the best possible site. They will take into consideration the road network and accessibility to the proposed activity that we want to put in place in Anguilla. We are hoping that we can have a serious discussion with them in terms of the next step to have something tangible – such as a plan to present [to donors] in my quest for raising the necessary funds.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Rogers is spearheading a fund-raising campaign for up to US$500,000 to finance the purchase of a CT machine for the Princess Alexandra Hospital. The fund-raising effort in Anguilla, and abroad, has so far resulted in the contribution of some substantial funds as well as pledges of assistance.
