During this week, there has been a three-day Emergency Operations Centre Management and Design workshop in Anguilla presented by visiting personnel from the United Kingdom Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
The course, outlined in the agenda document, was aimed at providing “the framework, components, and processes needed to manage and operate a National Emergency Operations Centre to help ensure a safe, efficient, and effective response to any incident.”
Some of the components of the workshop included the functions and organisation of the National Emergency Operations Centre; staffing and responsibilities; information management, communications management, mission and resource management and public information.
Mr. Lynrod Brooks, who holds the temporary appointment of Director of Disaster Management for a year, told The Anguillian: “We are having training for personnel of the Emergency Operations Centre. We want to make sure that all persons involved in disaster response and working at the EOC are trained for what is required of them.”
The facilitators were Mr. Keith Holman, Trainer, and Ms. Heleme Wetherington, the FCO’s Disaster consultant based in Miami. Other FCO personnel have also been in attendance.
