The Special Education Centre located at The Valley Primary School has embarked on a planting project aimed towards teaching students to work together for one common goal. This particular Centre caters to students with behavioural and emotional challenges. The planting project, which got on its way from January 2016, saw the students learning to paint and designing several tires identified for placing seedlings in. The project allowed the students to learn about suitable soil conditions, types of soil and what all goes into the process of planting.
In their endeavor to ensure the students were developing the necessary skills of interacting, students were placed in groups of two to discuss and plant the seedlings as best as required – to ensure their survival. Over the last few weeks, the students excitedly watered and observed the plants as they grew. This project was extended through classroom activities which allowed them to further develop their literacy and numeracy skills as they wrote about the planting process, and took measurements of their plant growth.
The teachers and staff of the Special Education Centre at The Valley Primary School wish to thank the following for their support and donations towards their planting project. These are: Agriculture Department, Roy Brooks, Jason Brooks, Ashley Brooks and other members of The Valley Community.
