The Royal Anguilla Police Force wishes to advise the general public that the roadways in Anguilla SHALL NOT be used for any unauthorized activities such as motor cycle stunt riding. Motorcycle stunt riding (often referred to as stunting) involves the use of acrobatic manoeuvring of the motorcycle and sometimes the rider. Common manoeuvres in stunt riding include wheelies, stoppies and burnouts. These types of manoeuvres when done on the roadways are considered to be rash and reckless, and show very little consideration for the protection of the lives of the public, other roadway users and the riders of the said motorcycles. There has been a rise in this type of activity throughout the roadways in Anguilla. These activities are against the laws of Anguilla and those found in contravention will be prosecuted to the full extent. The roadways of Anguilla shall remain a safe haven for all road users.
As such the Royal Anguilla Police Force is advising that contrary to section 218 (a) of the Criminal Code of Anguilla, cC140, it is an offence for any person to drive or ride in any public place in a manner considered to be rash or negligent as to endanger human life or safety. Any person found guilty of the said offence is liable on conviction to imprisonment for two (2) years. And that it is also an offence contrary to section 53 (1) of the Vehicle and Road Traffic Act, cV010, for any person who drives a motor vehicle on a road recklessly, or at a speed or in a manner which is dangerous to the public, having regard to all the circumstances of the case including the nature, condition and use of the road, and the amount of traffic which is actually at the time or which might reasonably be expected to be on the road is liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term of three (3) years or to a fine or to both.
Additionally please note that the holder of a learner’s permit may not lawfully drive a motorcycle or an all-terrain vehicle on any public roadway in Anguilla unless accompanied by a driving instructor or a person with at least three (3) years driving experience, who is close enough to directly observe and communicate with the driver. Any person who contravenes this section is liable on summary conviction to a fine of three thousand dollars Eastern Caribbean currency ($3,000).
