ANGUILLA, BWI – During March, Matt Long (aka Sandman Matt) will create one of his crowd-pleasing, whimsical sand sculptures on the glittering white sand of Maundays Bay Beach at the exclusive iconic resort Cap Juluca in the British West Indies. Over a three-day period Long, a well-known master of the art of sand-sculpting, will build an original showpiece on the beach, and then he’ll teach guests some of the tricks of the sandcastle-building trade before they compete in a Cap Juluca Sandcastle Competition.

Who: Professional sand sculptor Matt Long (aka Sandman Matt) travels to great beaches everywhere to create themed sand masterpieces for pure enjoyment and admiration. His competition-winning work has been appreciated all over the United States., and he was a cast member for two seasons on the television show “Sand Masters,” which originally aired on the Travel Channel in the U.S. and now seen on TLC around the world.

Building Starts with a Meet and Greet Reception
Sandman Matt begins shaping a sand pile on the dazzling white sand of Maundays Beach along the blue, blue, blue Caribbean coastline. There will be a Cap Juluca welcome reception at 6 p.m. for guests staying at the resort to meet the master sand sculptor.

• Friday, March 25
The Unveiling of the Masterpiece
Long will unveil his completed Cap Juluca sandcastle masterpiece near the resort’s Main House by 5 p.m.

Sandcastle-Building Clinic at 10:30 a.m. near Cap Juluca’s Blue restaurant
Long will conduct a two-hour sandcastle-building clinic where guests will learn the rudiments of sand sculpting, including the process that is crucial to success, what tools are best for sculpting, how to approach a sculpture idea and what it takes to create a fun and attention-grabbing sculpture.

Sandcastle Contest from 3 to 4:30 p.m.
Guests are challenged to put their artistic talents and sand-sculpting skills to the test during a competition while visiting expert Sandman Matt will be on the beach to help contestants with their sandcastles. Judges, including Long, will determine the Cap Juluca Sandcastle Competition winners. Prizes to be awarded.
