Former Minister of Social Development in the past Government of Anguilla, and fellow resident of the East End Community, Mr. Jerome Roberts, has praised Mr. Quincy Gumbs on the 30th Anniversary of Fairplay Group of Companies.
Mr. Roberts, who was at the Anniversary Service on Sunday, January 31, at the Sovereign Baptist Church, spoke to The Anguillian afterwards:
“I am indeed very impressed about Mr. Gumbs’ success,” he stated. “Everything in life is always a challenge and sometimes you are not sure about what you are doing, how it will materialise and what the outcome will be. But once you go into it positively, you expect a positive outcome.
“As Mr. Gumbs indicated, since 1992 or thereabout he started Fairplay. We now see the end product of what he started then. Someone, looking at it at that point in time, may have said it was a crazy idea Mr. Gumbs was going into. Where is he going to get the money, and where are his dreams behind it? But he pursued his dreams – a desire to move Anguilla into a different direction. It was not just a building constructed in our town by someone from East End, but he recognised the importance of bringing people into one central hub. The Fairplay Complex and Royale Caribbean Resort are major projects that Mr. Gumbs embarked on.
“He did it, as he said in his sermon, because he had a dream. He held on to and followed his dream, and he had the support of persons from within his immediate family and the wider community. I therefore wish to really commend and congratulate him for his success and achievements to date. If you know Mr. Gumbs, as I do, I know that he is going to continue to dream and pursue more dreams in light of moving his business and Anguilla forward.
“He indicated that he will be handing over, more or less, to his children to continue, but I think it was important – not just what he said about the business – …to have God in the centre. I just want to wish him – and, in particular, the woman who stayed to his side to see that things go very well – the very best as they pursue their dreams going forward. I am very proud of him.”
