THE VALLEY, ANGUILLA – After an intense three-day Emergency Operations Center Management and Design Training Workshop, a number of key personnel drawn from emergency response agencies and the Government of Anguilla are now better equipped to handle their assigned role in the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC). This workshop is part of a targeted programme of specialized training geared towards filling gaps in Anguilla’s emergency management programme highlighted by the recent Emergency Management Accreditation Programme (EMAP) undertaken in December 2015.
The workshop which was sponsored by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) took place at the new NEOC Conference room from 26th to 28th January 2016. The facilitators were Mr Keith Holman a retired US Emergency Manager and Mrs Helene Weatherington, Disaster Management Advisor for the Overseas Territories.
The workshop provided information on the effective operations of an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) at the national and agency level. An understanding of the primary EOC functions and essential activities, including communication links, activation and demobilization, staffing issues and managing operational information were also covered.
Participants were exposed to experiences and skill-sets that allowed them to collaboratively respond to an emergency event requiring the activation of the NEOC. The linkage between an incident command at the scene of an emergency and the NEOC was also an integral part of the workshop.
