The Anguilla Community College (ACC) began the first courses in its Community Connect Series on Saturday February 6th, 2016. Culinary Connect -Pan Asian Cuisine with Chef Ken Lin and Community Connect – Basic Computing facilitated by Mr. Nashaine Johnson are the inaugural courses.
Community Connect is a new initiative by the Anguilla Community College which focuses on continuing and adult education for the non-traditional student. The courses are designed to appeal to a wider and diverse audience.
Dr. Leroy Hill, the Dean of the ACC said “The community connect series is about our renewed strategic imperative of community engagement that sees the college being more relevant and active in the community. The college must be mindful of the community’s needs in pushing its programming – the name ‘Community College’ says it all. Therefore the Culinary Connect and the Community Computing forms part of this thinking. We aim to have at least one culinary connect offering each semester and it is our hope that we will offer the Pan-Asian again but we are planning for next semester (summer) to focus on Culinary Connect- International Cuisine. We are again delighted by the level of support we have received from our community partner LIME who came forth with a proposal for Basic Computing that we immediately started to work. We are happy to be partnering with LIME on this. We would like to invite other community partners who have similar interest in reaching selected audiences to connect with us so we can make that possible.”
Community Connect Basic Computing which is sponsored by LIME was marketed to persons 55 years and over. Participants were only required to pay $15 registration fee. Within a few days the class was full with persons who were enthusiastic and ready to learn more about computers.
One participant said ‘firstly I want to learn about the parts of the computer so that I know what my grandchildren are referring to when they say things like CPU.’
Another said, ‘My grandchildren come and show me things and they swipe and press things and I don’t understand what they are doing. I want to learn more.’
Jade Reymond, Marketing and Communications Manager said “LIME is pleased for the opportunity to be able to partner with the Anguilla Community College in this great initiative. It is important that we continue to develop our community to keep up with growing technologies, and this course offers that opportunity to a number of members of the community. There was also a lot of interest in the Culinary Connect Pan Asian Cuisine with Chef Ken. The eight participants vary in age, professional background and interests but are united by one thing, a love for cooking and a desire to learn more about different cooking styles and techniques.
Chef Ken of Cha Cha San Restaurant brings his experience as a professional chef to the table for this course. He is delighted to share his knowledge of how to use readily available ingredients to prepare delicious, authentic Asian food. His goal is for participants to be able to cook Asian food at home with confidence.

Registration at the Anguilla Community College is still open for persons who are interested in doing internationally recognized professional development courses through the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI). Courses include but are not limited to a Diploma in Marketing, a Diploma in Secretarial Administration and certificates in various areas including Business Administration.
