The Valley, Anguilla, January 20, 2016…..The Anguilla Tourist Board (ATB) will be participating in the upcoming CHTA Caribbean Travel Marketplace, taking place at the Atlantis Resort in Nassau, Bahamas from January 21 – 23, 2016.
The Hon. Cardigan Connor, Parliamentary Secretary with Responsibility for Tourism, Youth, Sports and Culture, will lead the Anguilla delegation. He will be accompanied by Chantelle Richardson, Deputy Director, Marketing, ATB; Jill Ackerman, Trade Relations Consultant, ATB North America; and Gilda Gumbs-Samuel, ATB Board Member and Executive Director of the Anguilla Hotel and Tourist Association.
The Caribbean Travel Marketplace is essentially a buyer-seller meet. Over the course of two days of pre-arranged business meetings tourism suppliers are afforded the opportunity to meet face to face with wholesalers from around the world selling Caribbean vacation travel. There are a variety of media/marketing companies interested in providing services to the Caribbean that also attend the event.
A key component of the ATB’s trade relations strategy is to engage the travel trade with Anguilla to ensure that they are selling all levels of accommodations – Luxury Resorts, Charming Escapes, Villas. Over 40 business meetings have been set up with the major players attending at CHTA, including wholesalers Apple Leisure Vacations, the Transat Group Canada and Delta Vacations (MLT); online travel agencies Expedia, Booking.com and tripcentral.ca; the Travel Leaders Group, a major consortium; and World Travel Holdings, a leading contractor of villas worldwide. European players Mark Travel and Funway Holidays from the UK and La Fabbrica Dei Sogni from Italy are also on the ATB agenda.
In addition to encouraging these buyers to consider Anguilla, or to expand their Anguilla product line, the ATB will also gauge their interest in arranging familiarization trips for their product managers and/or for their travel agents who have not visited the island in the last 5 years.
The Anguilla delegation returns to the island on January 24th. The respective ATB overseas representatives will conduct follow-up to all meetings held, with regular updates provided to the Board on an ongoing basis.
