Tourism Properties Benefits From Hazard Identification Training

The Valley, Anguilla – The National Disaster Management Committee through the Mitigation Working Group of its Strategic Planning Sub Committee conducted a Hazard Identification Training Workshop on Thursday 26th, 2015 at the Merry Wing Conference room of Cuisinart Golf Resort & Spa Conference Room for employees in the Tourism Sector.

The 29 participants were employees drawn from Cuisinart Hotel, Viceroy Hotel, Carimar Hotel, Malliouhana Hotel, Cap Juluca Hotel and Ce-Blue Resort.
The Facilitators for the training were Messrs. Omari Bourne and Jelanie Lawrence from the Anguilla Fire & Rescue Service, Kasseem Forde from the Department of Physical Planning and Mr. Alwyn Richardson from the Department of Disaster Management.
The main objectives of the training were to provide methodology for identifying, reporting and monitoring potential hazards and risks, as well as implementing controls and conducting risk assessments in the workplace. The expected benefits of which are the prevention of injury and accidents, loss of life and serious damage to property.

Participants were also afforded techniques in developing evacuation planning, proper use of fire extinguishers, creating health and safety policies and committees. Additionally, participants also learned the importance of conducting inspections in the hazard identification and mitigation process.
The Mitigation Working Group wishes to thank The Executive Management of Cuisinart Gold Resort & Spa for proving their facility to conduct the training, Latoya Scarbro and the Events Coordination team of the Resort for their professional support and assistance and to all the participants who attended. The Working Group also expressed a firm commitment in presenting more initiatives of this nature in the future, whereby creating safe and healthy workplaces, protecting life and reducing injuries resulting from hazards.
