The Social Security Board has announced that Mr. Rudy Webster of Long Path, Anguilla is the winner of the competition held to design its new corporate logo. Director of Social Security Mr. Timothy Hodge stated that the Board had decided to select a new corporate logo as the current one was essentially the Anguilla Shield which has been adopted by most Government Departments and Statutory bodies, and therefore it is not easily distinguishable from others. Mr. Webster’s winning entry was selected from a number of submissions, and attracted a prize of EC$500. The Social Security Board has expressed its appreciation to all those who took part in
its Logo Competition.
When submitting his entry, Mr. Webster stated “in coming up with a new design for the Social Security logo, my first thought was to bring back the iconic ‘A’ that was used in the original Social Security logo. Despite its simplicity I had always felt that in its time it was one of the bolder, easily recognizable logos around locally.” The new logo therefore contains a variation of the ‘A’ with a ladder-like effect consisting of “tracks that converge symbolizing each citizen’s path toward social security. Persons come from varied backgrounds and professions but they have all united to build and maintain Anguilla’s strongest social safety net under the directorship of the Anguilla Social Security Board.” The logo does incorporate the national colours and the three dolphins of the national flag, which in their own tight circle are representative of the sun, as well as the turquoise sea which in this case portrays waves representing the vagaries of life which are addressed by the Social Security System’s benefits.
The Board intends to have a Flag Raising ceremony shortly at which its new flag, containing the new logo, will be hoisted for the first time.
