As part of the 16 Days of Activism 2015, the UWI Open Campus Anguilla is collaborating with the Gender Affairs Unit to host a panel discussion on the 2015 Domestic Violence Act. Slated for Wednesday, 9 December at 6:00 p.m. at the Wallbake Conference Centre, the discussion will be chaired by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Social Development, Dr. Bonnie Richardson-Lake and include presenters from the private and public sector, as well as youth, religious and legal perspectives.
Launched on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on 25 November under the theme “Voices Against Violence”, the 16 Days of Activism will end on World Human Rights Day on 10th December. According to the organisers, Dr. Phyllis Fleming-Banks and Dr. Ronya Foy Connor, this is a fitting time for us to re-engage in the awareness-building and discussions on the Domestic Violence Act and the way forward.
