Eighteen (18) representatives from nine (9) National Sporting Associations and four (4) representatives from the Department of Sports participated in a three-day workshop on Governance in Sport facilitated by the Caribbean Sport and Development Agency (CSDA). The Hon. Cardigan Connor, Parliamentary Secretary for Sports at the Ministry of Social Development, addressed the workshop at the opening session and urged participants to embrace the concepts and principles of good governance in an effort to enhance the development of sport in Anguilla.
Workshop Participants:
Commended the Department of Sports for organizing the workshop around the important theme of Good Governance in Sport.
Thanked the Caribbean Sport and Development Agency for facilitating the workshop and for introducing key concepts and principles for good governance in sport.
Affirmed their commitment to embracing the draft Anguilla Good Governance in Sport Principles:
Principle1: Clarity of Purpose
Establish a clearly articulated purpose of the organization in alignment with global trends and reflected in the vision, mission, core values, etc.
Principle 2: Functional Structure and Systems
Establish and commit to an organizational structure and appropriate systems that drive the effective and efficient functioning of the organization.
Principle 3: Internal and External Relationships
Ensure that all relevant stakeholders are informed, consulted, involved and openly, objectively and adequately serviced.
Principle 4: Code of Ethics
Promote and protect the integrity of sport through the establishment of and adherance to a Code of Ethics that provides clear ethical positions and guidelines for the conduct of personnel.
Principle 5: Reporting
Establish and adhere to transparent and accountable systems and structures of reporting and evaluating on the performance of the organization at all levels.
Principle 6: Context.
Ensure adequate consideration is given to the local, regional and international context in terms of national development priorities as well as cultural, economic and social realities.
Recommended that all National Sporting Associations in Anguilla commit to the draft Good Governance in Sport Principles.
