The Ministry of Health and Social Development as well as the Health Authority of Anguilla were hosts to the Executive of the Caribbean Association of Pharmacists (CAP) for its 2015 Executive Meeting and Leadership Summit. We note on record our thanks for the positive response to the proposal and the support given by The Ministry of Health and Social Development through Permanent Secretary Dr. Bonnie Richardson- Lake. Of equal importance was the collaboration with The Health Authority of Anguilla through the instrumentality of Chief Executive Officer, Mr. George Brown. We were also pleased to have the Chief Medical Officer, Dr Aisha Andrewin and Health Planner Maeza Demis-Adams representatives from the Ministry, as well as representatives from the Health Authority present and participating in the Welcome Reception.
In addition to discussing the association’s business, the three-day visit provided CAP the opportunity to:
Discuss regional issues relating to healthcare for Caribbean nationals and residents as well as visitors to Anguilla;
Interact with more than thirty representatives of the Anguillan health professional groupings during continuing education sessions which focused on health- related issues such as the national , regional and international impact of the Abuse of Prescription and Over-The –Counter Medication and research findings related to Hypertension perception in selected Anguillan male also Medicine
Utilization Review in the Elderly;
Initiate discussion for future partnerships and collaboration. The CAP delegation unanimously agreed that it was “mission accomplished”. Faculty members have committed to partnering with the Ministry and Anguillan Health Authority for future Public Education sessions.
Additionally CAP member and event Coordinator in Anguilla, Mrs. Doreen Bucknor has also been given assurance of the association’s continued support of her future efforts.
Believe it or not, it was not all work. Some members of the Executive had a chance to enjoy the beautiful beach; not just the view from La Vue Inn ! Then there was the educational tour of parts of the island which included a visit to the hospital and exotic resorts.
We were grateful for warm reception and hospitality; thanks to all whose part made our stay memorable. Our thanks also to all the sponsors without whom the visit would not be possible. Among them :
Ministry of Health & Social Development
Health Authority of Anguilla
Anguillan Tourist Board
Carlisle Laboratories Limited
Hughes Medical Centre
Paramount Pharmacy
