In presenting a country report on Anguilla at the workshop, the Hon. Member gave an overview of the current energy situation noting that despite drastic drops in world fuel prices, energy prices in Anguilla were still amongst the highest in the region.

She indicated that this has had a detrimental effect on economic growth and pointed to the need for more public awareness activities in relation to climate change and renewable energy.

Mrs. Bradley was very pleased that that active steps were being taken by the Anguilla Elecricity Company Anglec towards the development of a 1 Megawatt Solar Farm which would help to drive costs down for the consumer, adding that the Government of Anguilla remained highly committed to the development of renewable energy alternatives including a wind/solar energy mix.

The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, CPA UK in partnership with UNDP sponsored the four day workshop, which was the third of three regional workshops in Africa, Asia and the Caribbean between November 2015 and January 2016 on Sustainability, Energy and Development.

A follow-up workshop is slated for March in London, UK.

Anguilla’s attendance was funded by the CPA and the Governor’s Office in Anguilla.
