Lime Anguilla presented a cheque of $5,376 ECD to the Anguilla National Calypso Association at its Headquarters in The Valley. The cheque was handed over to President of the Anguilla National Calypso Association, Rebecca ‘Queen B’ Webster, and Secretary Clemencia ‘De Adjudicator’ Dupie, by newly-installed Country Manager Desron Bynoe.
Speaking to the media, Marketing Manager Jade Raymond said, “I thought it was such a great initiative by the Calypso Association to take the opportunity to not only recognize but award our hard working calypsonians in our community. We thought that this was a great opportunity to be a part of our cultural development in Anguilla”. Lime’s sponsorship aids the entertainment aspect of the event which will feature former Trinidadian Calypso Monarch, Singing Sandra.
President of the Association, Rebecca ‘Queen B’ Webster, thanked the company for its sponsorship of the event. She said, “We are very excited to be partnering with LIME for this first ever Award, Dinner Dance ceremony”. The ceremony will be hosted by King Bobo out of St. Maarten and will feature performances by Boss and his Horse Power Band, tributes by local calypsonians and, of course, Singing Sandra.
The Association will be awarding ten calypsonians who have been contributing to the art form for thirty years and over, and eleven junior calypsonians for their participation over the years. There will be five special awards some of which will be named after fallen calypsonians, and the Legendary Award to a special person who has contributed significantly to calypso.
Rebecca ‘Queen B’ Webster commented, “We hope to have this as an annual event as we feel that it’s important to recognize not only Calypso but our culture in Anguilla and we shouldn’t only wait until carnival comes around to celebrate calypso and Calypsonians”.
Tickets cost $65 USD and could be obtained from the members of the Association as well as by the People’s Market, under a LIME tent, on Friday 20th November 2015. The event is scheduled to take place on November 21st 2015 at the Anguilla Great House.
