After a series of awareness activities, Breast Cancer Awareness Month – October – climaxed with the customary walk on Friday afternoon, October 22.
A large gathering of women and men wearing pink t-shirts converged at the Scouts and Guides Ruthwill Auditorium. There, they were addressed by Mrs. Jennifer Gumbs, Senior Health Educator and President of the Anguilla Cancer Society; and by Ms. Jade Reymond, LIME Anguilla’s Marketing and Communications Manager.

Mrs. Gumbs has been the driving force behind Cancer Awareness Month and LIME Anguilla, through Ms. Reymond, donated US$4,000 – the equivalent of EC$10,000. The cost of the event included the erection of a Breast Cancer Billboard in the vicinity of the Clayton Lloyd International Airport, t-shirts and the awareness walk.

The route of the walk, from the Grounds of the Scouts and Guides Ruthwill Auditorium, was along the Airport Roundabout, the Edwin Wallace Rey Drive at George Hill, the Reverend C. Leonard Road at North Hill, through Sachasses, down The Valley from the old Cottage Hospital and back to the grounds of the Scouts and Guides Ruthwill Auditorium.

The activities throughout the month of October included radio programmes and testimonies, radio quiz and giveaways; text quiz and giveaways; free mammogram checks and the wearing of pink on Fridays.
