The Anguilla Statistics Department (ASD) observed Statistics Week during the period October 11th to 16th, 2015, under the theme: “Empowering our nation through the use of quality statistics – Post 2015 Development Agenda”. This year?s celebration, the seventh of its kind, sought to raise awareness of the use of statistics in empowering individuals, communities and ultimately our nation while at the same time continuing to heighten awareness of the contribution of official statistics to the development of a society.
As part of the Anguilla Statistics Week 2015 activities, the ASD held a word creation competition which began on September 21st, 2015 targeting all primary school aged students, in grades 3 to 6. The competition closed on October 7th, 2015.
The students were asked to submit one entry containing as many as possible English words (5 letters or more) from the phrase: „Development Agenda and Data?. The ASD received a total of 62 entries from six (6) primary schools. The winners are as follows:
Prize Winners Division 1: Grades 3 & 4
1st place – Samantha Minott (Omololu International School) – 605 valid words
2nd place – Jaylene L?etang (Omololu International School) – 344 valid words
3rd place – Hakea Brooks (Valley Primary School) – 332 valid words
Prize Winners Division 2: Grades 5 & 6
1st place – Iyesha M. A. Carty (Valley Primary School) – 863 valid words
2nd place – Omar Hodge (Morris Vanterpool Primary School) – 606 valid words
3rd place – Aaron Campbell (Central Christian School) – 583 valid words
The Anguilla Statistics Department would like to thank all the schools and students for their participation as well as the teachers and parents who encouraged their students/children to participate. The ASD recognizes all entrants as winners and wishes them continued success in their future endeavours.
