A number of employees of the Anguilla Electricity Company Ltd. (ANGLEC) have been awarded for the second year in succession. The 2015 awards ceremony was held on Friday, November 13, at All Stars Sports Bar at George Hill.
ANGLEC’s Manager of Human Resources, Ms. Erimel Franklin, who chaired the ceremony, said they were honoured for outstanding performance, perfect attendance, punctuality, innovation, certified training and service to the community. “We recognise your efforts and all that you do and, at this special occasion, we want to celebrate and congratulate you for your hard work,” she told them during the award ceremony and luncheon.
Chief Executive Officer, Mr. David Gumbs, said in part: “Congratulations to all the awardees – and I want to say to our new Chairman, Mr. Harold Ruan, this is a great time in terms of the timing of your chairmanship. This is a very important programme for the organisation and I am glad it is one of the first events you will be addressing. This is something we hope to do more often and will become part of our culture at ANGLEC because it is something that will drive the organisation. We want to make sure that we can remain a competitive organisation – one that is driven, innovative and is committed to its employees.”
Mr. Gumbs told the awardees that sometimes ANGLEC does not get the credit it deserves from the public. “We want to make sure that people see you as a dedicated group of people working towards a common cause,” he stated. “That is what we want to encourage by having these types of ceremonies. I congratulate all of you and thank you for everything you have done. We appreciate what you do day in and day out.”
Mr. Harold Ruan also addressed the employees in his capacity as Chairman of the Board of Directors. “ANGLEC is an important component of development in Anguilla, and I am elated that the shareholders of this organisation have entrusted their faith in me to appoint me as a Director of this institution for the third time,” he observed. He was delighted that on November 2, 2015, the members of the Board had appointed him unopposed as Chairman, thus signifying their trust in its leadership.
He thanked the former Board of Directors for formulating a 140-page comprehensive governance document with the assistance of Dr. Henry, a consultant in Dominica. He hoped that such a document would help to guide the organisation and that all officers would conform to its professional requirements. “In this organisation we have to be effective; we have to be prudent; we have to be responsible,” he stressed. “If one were to stick to these three attributes, we would not have any difficulty going forward in the development of ANGLEC.”
Mr. Ruan went on: “ANGLEC was licensed in 1991 as monopoly to deliver electricity-related services until 2041.This does not mean, however, that we have to be complacent. Everyday we have to try to give a better level of service and I believe that ANGLEC, as is, is not giving the level of service that our consumers deserve, demand or require. I admonish you, we are not masters of our consumers. We are servants to our consumers and we must think of means and ways to be ambassadors of this organisation.”
In congratulating the awardees, he added: “I believe that going forward, under the leadership of Harold Ruan and his colleagues, we will ensure that you, the employees, will be the recipients of what you deserve.”
