T’arah Speaks wins ‘A.L.H.C.S So You Think You Can Perform’

Spoken Word artist T’arah Speaks – T’arah Niles, joins Miekaile Brown as ultimate performer of the A.L.H.C.S So You Think You Can Perform (SYTYCP) series. T’arah Niles became the second winner of the series on Saturday 26th September, 2015. She takes her place alongside Miekaile Browne who became the first ever So You Think You Can Perform winner in 2013.

Singing duo Double Divas – Nakia and Breanna Webster – were 1st Runner-Up and soloist Anise – Caneema Niles – took home 2nd Runner-Up. There were only two shows in the series this year, instead of the scheduled three.

The other contestants who took part in the finale were singing duo TnT- Artiya Bruno and Kevin Thonpson; and soloist Christoph Pradel. The series initially kicked off with nine contestants vying for the title.

The audience was not only entertained by the display of talents by the students, but was also treated to guest performances by: singing duo Veneshaw Hodge and Elson Richardson; Alexis Ryan ( the Spoken Word ) with dance artist Yerdi Flemming; sing and dance duo Levonda Delaney and Miekaile Browne; Rahiem Webster, lead singer for Better Vibes Association; Trevor Queeley on the saxophone; Shea – Shea; and Omari Banks who also shot a section for his music video: ‘More Than Friends’.

Coordinator of the event, Trevreen Queeley-Javois, commented, “This event was designed to raise funds in order for the [Theater Arts ] Department to participate in the biannual Caribbean Secondary School Drama Festival”. The drama festival is scheduled for November 1st to November 8th, 2015, and will be held in Trinidad. The Theater Arts Department took a team to Barbados in 2013 for a similar event.
