The Anguilla Statistics Department (ASD) observing Statistics Week during the period October 11th to 16th, 2015, under the theme: “Empowering our nation through the use of quality statistics – Post 2015 Development Agenda” has been participating in a number of activities. This year’s celebration, the seventh of its kind, seek to raise awareness of the use of statistics in empowering individuals, communities and ultimately our nation while at the same time continuing to heighten awareness of the contribution of official statistics to the development of a society.
This year the Caribbean will celebrate the seventh (7th) “Caribbean Statistics Day” on Thursday, 15th October, 2015, all in an effort to continue to raise the contribution of official statistics to the development of a society. The celebration of Caribbean Statistics Day will allow recognition of the pivotal role played by statistics in everyday life, in all spheres, at the national, regional and international level.
As part of our week of activities, which is intended to highlight the essential role of official statistics in the development of individuals, our communities, and our nation and by extension the Caribbean, the Department held a Primary School’s Fun Day which was held on October 14, 2015 at the Soroptomist Day Care Centre.
Six primary schools participated this year. Eight (8) students from among grades 4, 5 and 6 were invited to participate in the Fun Day. This year’s activities were:
• Jeopardy Mathematics: – with questions from six (6) categories such as:
• fractions, roman numeral, decimals, percentages, algebra and random
• Bonus Questions
Those persons winning individual prizes and the overall Jeopardy winners for 2015 were:
