Hopefully Mr. Morrison will be warmly received rather than reviled as an "outsider" by those who feel a belonger or a Caribbean native would have been a better choice. Crime solving/crime prevention/mitigation in Anguilla is complicated by the fact that it is a small island with a small population. Unfortunately, many people are unwilling to report crime/work to reduce crime for fear of reprisal by the criminal element. We were all horrified by violent robberies of restaurants (and in one case their patrons as well) and the attack on an elderly couple renting a high end villa a few years ago. The couple was severely injured and their injuries have affected the rest of their lives. With the internet, such bad news spreads worldwide within hours. Unless crime/fear of crime/threat of crime is contained and eliminated, the tourist product belongers have so carefully developed for decades will be irrevocably damaged, possibly beyond repair.

Anguilla has no "fall back industry" other than tourism. Every belonger must realize that wherever they are employed, in whatever capacity, every belonger is in the tourist industry.

Like many visitors, we have always been impressed by the diligence, hard work, enthusiasm, politeness, cheerfulness and ingenuity of belongers. Those qualities and the gorgeous beaches have kept us coming back for 25 years and telling friends and anyone we meet, "You must visit Anguilla. It is not only 'tranquility wrapped in blue,' but the belongers are the most marvelous people on the face of this earth."
