The annual Soroptimist Reading Workshop recently closed after two and a half weeks. More than 40 children took part this year – mostly students due to go to the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School Campus B in September, and who needed extra coaching in reading. The programme used is an enjoyable one and the students benefitted in reading, comprehension and spelling while enjoying the stories and exercises.
Soroptimist Stella Horsford organised the workshop with assistance from several members of the Club. At the closing ceremony she thanked the children for attending and expressed the hope that they had progressed in their reading. She wished them a successful school year and urged them to: attend classes regularly, be on time, work hard, behave well, listen, and be obedient, respectful and helpful. She thanked the Education Department, represented by Colleen Horsford, for partnering with the Soroptimist Club. She urged the students to go to the library often and continue their reading.
Programme Action Chairman, Olive Hodge, presented certificates of participation to the children. President of the Club, Oluwakemi Linda Banks, also urged the students to continue reading and to be helpful to their parents during the holidays, to work hard at school and be kind to their peers.
