The art of drumming and music workshop is the brain child of mr jaiden Fleming of British dependency. In collaboration with the department of youth and culture, the workshop was held at ALHCS campus A and lasted for one week. During the course of the week, mr Fleming, alongside the talented and experienced drummers mr oshane Campbell (Freddy Mcgreggor band) and mr courtney Williams (various well known artist) , not only instructed but demonstrated a series of techniques and skills pertaining to drumming. Students were also exposed to other musical instruments and given daily opportunities to interact with some of the islands best musicians and apply what they learned in a musical setting. A few life lessons were also taught along the way with the instructors displaying positive examples, discipline and working along together as a team. 20 youth attended the workshop with ages ranging between 4 and 17.
The workshop concluded with a showcase at The Anguilla Great House Resort giving students the opportunity to perform in front of an audience which consisted of families, friends ,supporters and government officials. The workshop proved a success with all students confidently displaying what they learned. The art of drumming and music workshop will be held annually and is definitely a great step towards enhancing the musical capabilities and performance arts in Anguilla. For those who can’t wait for the next one, Mr Jaiden Fleming also offers private lessons for persons age 4 and up.
