Jayvon Lloyd and Rushana Welcome are the new N.Y.P.D Debate Champions. On Friday night June 26, at the Teachers Resource Centre in a very keen contest they defeated Tyree Peters and Aaron Adams IN THE FINALS.
The moot topic was “The Government of Anguilla should construct a drag racing track due to the popularity of the sport in Anguilla” Jayvon Lloyd was named best speaker of the finals, while Aaron Adams won best speaker for year one.
Other winners were Jadia Hodge, best speaker for year two; best new debater was Zomahne Hodge; most improved debater was Ameeya Woodley, while the most outstanding participation awards went to Luisana Rete and Micah Connor. The most helpful award went to Michael Martin JR; the Fairplay award went to Edwin Sutton while Raheem Carty captured the most courageous award; and Phylecia Harrigan won the most dedicated award trophy. For Impromtu Speech contest, Adrian Carty placed 5th, Keisha Edwards 4th, Edwin Sutton 3rd; Taijah Leveret was second and Kamoy Garvey captured the first place trophy.
