A series of spectacular fireworks lit up the western sky at Viceroy Anguilla on Saturday, July 4th. The event was a celebration of the 1776 American Independence – with Anguillians and many visitors, mainly from America, rubbing shoulder to shoulder at the Sunset Lounge pool, where a grand food and music party was held.
The large number of Anguillians, from public and private life, took up an advertisement invitation to the function, where they were warmly received among the Resort’s guests. Not only did they have an opportunity to listen to and enjoy the music and songs of their own Omari Banks and Deanna Mussington, but also the music of DJ Michelle Pesce, an internationally-acclaimed entertainer born in Youngstown, Ohio.
Viceroy Anguilla’s General Manager, Mr. Richard Alexander, was particularly delighted with the mass turnout of Anguillians and guests at the Resort.
“The 4th of July for Viceroy Anguilla is a very special occasion. It is probably the second most important event of the year following Christmas and the New Year,” he told The Anguillian at the outset of the event. “Many of our guests come from America and we like to celebrate the 4th of July.
“The evening starts with sumptuous dinners being served at Coba Restaurant or around Aleta’s swimming pool where we serve a special family-style dinner. It is about children – not just about adults.
“And then, around 8.30, this year wAe have Deanna Mussington performing to start the evening off; and at 9.30 we have this amazing fireworks display. Immediately after the fireworks, guess what: we have Omari Banks who is going to be performing at Viceroy Anguilla. We decided this year to really recognise local artistes because it is all about Anguilla. After Omari, there will be an international DJ [Michelle Pesce] performing, and the evening will go on till early in the morning. We thank everyone for joining us.”
Replying to a question from the newspaper, Mr. Alexander said that around this time of the year Viceroy Anguilla had a 65 percent occupancy rate. “That equates to about 350 people – multi-generational folk – grandparents, parents and young children,” he explained. “We had a very extensive programme over the 4th of July. We brought in fitness experts to do bootcamp along with our local experts. It has been a very exciting weekend.”
The 4th of July celebration is an annual event at Viceroy Anguilla to which both Anguillians and visitors look forward to attending.
