The Anguilla National Calypso Association (ANCA), on Monday 13 July, handed over cheques to nine (9) of its member calypsonians to assist with their recordings for the 2015 Calypso Monarch Competition. The cheques, in the amount of US$300.00 each, were made possible primarily from the proceeds of a Raffle put on by the Association.
When the Association was formed in late October 2014, one of its objectives was to provide members with some tangible benefit in the near term – so being able to handover the cheques on Monday 13 July was a satisfying achievement. The event, which took place in the Conference Room of the Department of Youth and Culture, was covered by the Press and drew remarks from the Director of Youth and Culture who was very loud in his praises for what he has seen, thus far, of the Association. He pledged to do everything through his good office to assist the Association.
In addition to remarks from the President of ANCA, Rebecca ‘Queen B’ Webster; and the PRO of the Association, Jason ‘Gossip’ Lloyd, several of the recipients also spoke in gratitude and appreciation for the gesture by the ANCA. The other members of the Association’s Executive were also present at the Cheque Handing-Over Ceremony – Treasurer Leon ‘Messenger’ Lake, Vice President John ‘Springer’ Lloyd and Clemencia ‘Adjudicator’ Dupie.
In thanking all who assisted the ANCA in achieving its goal, the ANCA announces the immediate launch of another Raffle the funds from which will go towards the Association’s Awards Dinner slated for October 2015. The ANCA anticipates the public’s support of this venture – the top prize being a Washing Machine and Dryer.
The ANCA appeals to all calypsonians to come on board as we join forces in Moving Calypso Forward.
