A number of Anguilla’s men, including the fifteen who were honoured for their contributions to the island, had an opportunity to dine and network together.
The event, at Italia Restaurant, at CuisinArt Golf Resort and Spa, was held on Saturday, June 27, as part of Men’s Week 2015. It was jointly organised by the Resort and the Gender Affairs Unit of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The function was aimed at bringing together men – from all walks of life – to encourage, educate and inspire each other in a relaxed environment.
There were three speakers: Pastor James Morris, who is serving at the New Testament Church, and who spoke on networking and leadership; Architect Mr. Vanburn Brooks, whose topic was on what makes a man a man; and Assistant Pastor Dwayne Adams, at the Central Baptist Church, who spoke on family and friendship and the need for leadership roles in the home and wider community.
Gender Affairs Coordinator, Dr. Ronya Foy-Connor, said it was the second such event held by the Gender Affairs Unit in cooperation with CuisinArt Golf Resort and Spa. The first was for Women’s Week when a number of women were honoured and celebrated. She was grateful to the owner and management of the Resort for partnering with the Gender Affairs Unit for both events.
Meanwhile, the Resort’s Vice President and General Manager, Mr. Stephane Zaharia, told The Anguillian that he was delighted with the event. He said it was part of an initiative by CuisinArt, over the past months, to hold gatherings of women, in particular, in settings where they could discuss specific topics on leadership and other matters.
“We feel that to have a good discussion around a good meal is the best way to achieve results,” he stated. “Today, we are honouring the men and, as part of this celebration, we are also honouring the fifteen men who have been celebrated in Anguilla.”
He promised that the Resort would continue to host such events for both men and women in order to promote social and leadership discussion while also bringing into focus the offerings of CuisinArt Golf Resort and Spa.
Mr. Zaharia also spoke about the Resort’s initiative whereby children are afforded opportunities to learn how to play golf as part of their sporting development, and also as a means of keeping them positively and gainfully occupied.
