Plans for the Anguilla Summer Festival are moving ahead well. The latest preparatory event was the launch of the 2015 senior and junior calypso competitions.
The competitions, which will be held on separate dates during the Summer Festival, were launched on the lawn at Viceroy Anguilla on Friday, June 26. Fourteen contestants, seven for each of the two categories, presented themselves in person and in song.
The afternoon ceremony was chaired by Mr. Joseph Vanterpool, a member of the Anguilla Summer Festival Committee, and chairman of the Leeward Islands Monarch Calypso Competition which is also part of the Festival.
Mr. Cardigan Connor, Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Culture, and Mr. Courtney Morton, Chairman of the Calypso sub-Committee, were the main speakers. Mr. Connor was appreciative of the number of persons who registered for the competitions, and looked forward to their performances during the Summer Festival in July/August.
The function was attended mainly by the Chairman of the Anguilla Festival, Mr. John Benjamin, and members of the Committee appointed by Government to oversee the 2015 Festival.
