With the celebration of Anguilla Day 2015, there have been a number of noteworthy scenes depicting the national colours, pride and beauty of the island.
Observers thought it was a commendable display of patriotism and love for country, demonstrated by a number of persons, who mounted the eye-catching decorations with little or no publicity.
The scenes included flags of Anguilla, buntings, garlands and other paraphernalia, bearing the national colours, affixed to utility poles and tree trunks as well as at roundabouts in Sandy Hill,The Valley, George Hill and Little Dix areas. In South Hill and Blowing Point – a banner reads: “Road South celebrates Anguilla Day.”
While there were some sparse decorations in the immediate area of the Ronald Webster Park in previous years, this is the first time that the displays have been so widespread.
There has also been a marked increase in the wearing of clothing depicting the national colours of the island, as was seen at various functions including church services.
To add to the above displays was the scene at the Social Security Building, renamed the James Ronald Webster Building in honour of the island’s revolutionary leader. The western side of the structure is an artistic picture of beauty on this Anguilla Day celebration.
The scene is an entanglement of multi-coloured bougainvillea, ascending from the foundation to almost the top of the building. A natural scene, it provides an arresting and picturesque tropical view for any discerning passer-by, photographer or artist.
