Dear Mr Hughes,
I understand that after many years long service to the Government and people of Anguilla you are stepping back from front line politics as .you complete your second period as Chief Minister. The length of your career is impressive and is a testament to the energy and commitment you have displayed over the years. I have no reservation in congratulating you on a career at the top of Anguillian politics spanning over 50 years.
I was pleased to meet you last December and appreciate your efforts, especially your commitment to travelling to London to participate in the Joint Ministerial Council. The intention of our meetings has been to bring the UK, Anguilla and the other Overseas Territories together, to build a stronger gartnership. Our productive discussion when we last met demonstrated this is, indeed, possible.
I know that you are planning to retain a keen interest in politics. I am sure your colleagues will be keen to draw on all the experience you have gleaned over the years. I wtsh you all the best in your future endeavours, but also hope you will be able to enjoy a little more time for yourself. My best wishes to you and your family for the future.
James Duddridge
Minister for the Overseas Territories
