pa1The first Anguilla Public Service Awards Ceremony was held on the lawn at Government House on Tuesday evening, June 23. The event was chaired by Ms. Susan Hodge, President of the Anguilla Civil Service Union, who welcomed the initiative.
The event – which coincided with the United Nations Public Service Day – awarded members of the Anguilla Public Service for outstanding contributions and achievements across five categories.
The winners in each category were as follows:
• Above and Beyond the call of duty: Maeza Demis Adams, Ministry of Social Development.
• Outstanding Customer Service: Gerda Connor, Treasury Department.
• Exhibiting a positive image of the Anguilla Public Service: Perin Bradley, Compliance Unit, Ministry of Finance.
• Great Idea/Innovation: DITES and e-Government services.
• Security/Safety: Lennick Richardson, Jillian Abbott and Hadassha Liburd – Immigration Department.
The highlight of the event was the announcement of Mrs.Vyrone Ruan, from the Attorney General’s Chambers, as Public Servant of the Year 2015. Mrs. Ruan was the only nominee to have been shortlisted in two categories of award.

According to a release from the Governor’s Office, all public servants were given an opportunity to nominate colleagues or themselves for the above awards.

In total, there were some thirty nominations across the five categories. A committee comprised of representative from different departments and grades throughout the Anguilla Public Service shortlisted the nominations and then agreed on the winners for each category.
