I SAID A PRAYER FOR ANGUILLA

April morn hath come and gone
For May flowers
No showers of blessings got yet
I fell on my knees and begged God Please
Deliver us from this perilous set

As the morning dawned
I prayed, I did
I asked God to do what was best
He knows our hurt, He knows our pain
He knew we’d withstood the ‘Cinco Años’ test

He knew, Oh Yes! did He know … He saw!
Anguilla’s people deserved better,
God gave us a chance to rationalize our stance
For now, Bones was in our rice and in our soup indeed was pepper
Hubert had fulfilled the words of Robert Bradshaw!!
For on Election Eve, Pappa Hughes did say
Anguilla was better off than St. Kitts
Yes, we always owned our land that we always knew
A special race were we, why we didn’t settle for ‘lil bits
That’s why we fought for our freedom! Secession- 30th of May

Hughie, It’s because potatoes and peas could no longer please
Nor build a nation for We
You always disliked ‘Uncle’, Father of the Nation
‘Cause you believed in ethics … This was your caption
Please, tell Anguilla, Hubbie,… didn’t He?

It took you forty years to publicly impress
As you had already stated in an Anguilla Day address
“Anguilla had no Revolution!!” It all resonated
Bradshaw’s damning words to Anguilla
“There’s no proposal before me!! Thus, chaos he created

You said on April 20th, in a big conclude
Which I thought was very, very, very shrewd
That you would have loved to serve with ‘Webster’
Just why didn’t, couldn’t, you Hughes?
Did you really think, Sir, you were any better?

So now, by plebiscite, your empire is gone!
A historical proclamation-On April 22nd-by mid morn
Curtis Love, whom God has sent, withstood he the test
South-Pointers voted him!! Voted they, him the Best …
THANK GOD, THE BABBLING EMPIRE IS OVER; HISTORY, THE REST!!
