The newly-appointed Minister of Education, the Hon. Evans McNiel Rogers, wants to see the beginning of construction work on the campus for the Anguilla Community College as soon as possible. He expressed this desire at a meeting called by the President of the College, Professor Delroy Louden, to which he was invited.
The meeting, on April 29, was also attended by Parliamentary Secretary the Hon. Cardigan Connor; Permanent Secretary, Education, Mrs. Chanelle Petty Barrett, and faculty and staff of the Community College.
Professor Louden, assisted mainly by the Dean, Dr. Leroy Hill, led the presentation of a discussion paper on the institution. The document focused on such matters as goals, objectives and challenges including the plans for the new campus at the Long Path; departmental objectives; the work the academic department; the registry and matters related to finance and human resources.
Minister Rogers was pleased with the updated information and with the plans to further develop the college, particularly to have its own permanent campus. He said he was originally involved in the early establishment of the institution during his first term as Minister of Education, and now that he was reelected he would work towards the completion of the planned campus.
It was noted that some of the money approved by the Caribbean Development Bank for the project had already been spent on preparatory work. Mr. Rogers pledged that he would strive towards speeding up the actual construction work with the assistance of his Permanent Secretary who, like him, was involved in the early establishment of the college.
