On Saturday 9 May, the Department of Probation held an Inter Departmental Sports Day under the direction of Event Organiser, Mr John Millington, at the James Ronald Webster Park in The Valley. In the run up to their 10th Anniversary Week of activities, starting 31 May, the Department invited some of their partners to participate in this event. There were teams from Fire, Police, Prison, Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, Utilities and Housing (MICUH), the ALHCS and Probation. According to the Chief Probation Officer, Ms Jocelyn Johnson, the event not only promotes comradery among departments but also shows that her department has a “light side” and that it reaches out to the community.
In his remarks concerning the theme ‘Reflecting on the Past and Forging Ahead’, the Minister of Social Development, Mr McNeil Rogers, acknowledged the hard work and dedication that has resulted in the “tremendous growth and development of the Department in the past 10 years.” He described the Department’s contribution to the society as immeasurable, and encouraged its staff to keep up the good and hard work. He complimented them on taking a break from their hard work to engage in some fun and encouraged the general public to support the Department in all of its activities.
