Thursday 30th April saw the pupils, parents and staff members of the Central Christian School (CCS) assemble at the Central Baptist Church with great anticipation for the annual inter-house Quiz Challenge. Officiating were the Judges Mr. Alran Webster, ATM Debit Card Officer (NBA); and Ms. Natalia Lake, Audit Compliance Officer (CCB) the Time Keeper, Mr. David Christmas (CCS’ PTA President), and the Moderators, Ms. Maureen Powell & Mrs. Nakeita Adams both CCS Teachers. The competition started to the delightful expectancy of the audience.
There were four houses competing: Red House, Green House, Blue House and Yellow House. The teams comprised pupils from grades 1 through 6. Participants were chosen based on ongoing classroom competitions which were conducted in the form of quizzes and games.
According to Ms Reid, Acting Principal, there were certain core benefits for participants: “The competition provides a valuable learning experience for each child and, more importantly, it allows them to engage in healthy competition at CCS. Though the activity is conducted in a fun and light environment, students would develop cognitive skills which include the ability to handle pressure. We seek to boost their confidence level in public speaking and teach them to accept mistakes, while also being praised/ applauded for their hard work.”
The participants were quizzed on various topics from all subject areas. “This provides an holistic approach to the competition which will greatly enhance the learning base of our students and give the parents and guardians some insight on what is being taught at the Central Christian School,” said Ms Reid.
