The marine mammal outreach programme ‘My School My Whale’ will be coming to Anguilla; thanks to the kind sponsorship of the Anguilla Social Security Board.
‘My School My Whale’ is a new awareness programme for children of primary school age. It was recently introduced to the French and Dutch Caribbean islands by the nongovernmental agency, Caribbean Region Specially Protected Areas and Wildlife (CARSPAW/AGOA), out of Guadeloupe. The aim of the programme is to increase children’s level of awareness of the marine environment, with a focus on marine mammals.
The Department of Fisheries and Marine Resources (DFMR) is grateful to its main sponsor, The Anguilla Social Security Board, who contributed EC$10,954.42 towards the workshop as well as secured reading and activity books, posters and other educational material about marine mammals for all primary school children on the island.
On the 4th and 5th May, marine mammal experts from CARSPAW/AGOA will be on island conducting the fun filled educational marine mammal workshops, for primary school children. The workshops will be held at the Royal Anguilla Police Force Conference Room.
The DFMR, wishes to thank the Anguilla Social Security Board, the RAPF, Ferry Boat Inn and Diamond 1 Ferry for their in kind contributions. Without these businesses and institutions, DFMR would not have been able to bring the programme ‘My School My Whale’ to Anguilla, and inspire and educate thousands of young minds.
