Omololu International School celebrated the end of Term 2 by highlighting the powerful role that Literature plays in the lives of us all. Omololu’s 1st Annual Literacy Festival proved to be a huge success as it showcased a dramatic blend of literary appreciation, theatrical performance and creativity in set design, all hallmarks of the talents and energies of the children.
Teachers and students prepared interactive presentations, with each classroom focusing on a different genre of literature – from epic poems, to drama, to fairy tales. The students dressed up in costumes, internalized their roles, and dramatized a series of skits and plays for all the visiting parents.
The Festival was presented in a rotation format so parents and guests were free to walk from room to room, watching as many different presentations as they could.
Not only were the presentations well-rehearsed and executed, but they were each distinctly unique, reflecting the individuality and personality of each class and their literary interests. The Pre-School students treated everyone to a musical version of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarves”, Kindergarten put their own spin on the classic “The Hungry, Hungry Caterpillar”, the 5th and 6th Graders took on Homer’s classic poem “The Odyssey”, and the 3rd and 4th graders acted out an original story created by one of their own classmates. The 1st and 2nd Grades rounded out the day by performing a poem and acting out the book entitled “The Day the Crayons Quit” by Oliver Jeffers.
“The presentation was phenomenal. Each child had a chance to present their talent individually and as a group which was excellent exposure for them. The expressiveness in terms of voice projection, clarity and body language was outstanding”, said a parent of two students who presented.
This Festival celebrates the appreciation and interpretation of various literary artforms, as enlightening avenues to personal growth and development for young readers. This initiative is the latest in a series of exciting opportunities and events that the students and teachers of OIS have embraced, along their development path where learning is engaging and multi-dimensional.
Omololu International School embraces and holistic and experiential approach to learning about our world, equipping students with meaningful understanding and skill sets to lead successful lives and to make a positive contribution to society.
