Schoolchildren in Anguilla have been exposed to the viewing of a documentary, on thirty-four Caribbean capitals, crafted by a Martinique film-maker, Patrick Baucelin.

“I think it is important for young people and other nationals in the Caribbean to know the different islands in the region as neighbours,” he said, while speaking in an interview with The Anguillian at the Orealia Kelly Primary School. It was at that location that a number of children from the other schools, as well as teachers, saw the film.

According to Mr. Baucelin, the documentary film took four years to complete with financial assistance from the European Development Fund in cooperation with an organisation in Guadeloupe. “It has taken a long time, one reason being that it was important to contact the various islands,” he explained. He visited Anguilla twice in that regard – the most recent being last year. He, however, completed his filming here in one day – having been in contact with the Anguilla Tourist Board which handled his visit. The video has been distributed in Anguilla and the various other islands except Bermuda and the Dominican Republic.

“It is important for everybody to know that the video is free for all schools, libraries and Tourism Boards,” he stated. “It is very expensive, but I think it is important that young people, in particular, know the different islands.” He pointed out that there were, for example, a number of French and English territories in the Caribbean, thus making it even more important and necessary for the various nationals to have a good knowledge of the islands.
