With the 2015 Anguilla Day celebrations approaching, Ms. Avon Carty has been announced as the winner of the theme for all the activities. Her winning entry was: “Strong and Resilient at 48; Much to be proud of. Let’s Celebrate.”
The competition was arranged by the Anguilla National Celebrations Committee of the Ministry of Home Affairs, which is chaired by the Permanent Secretary, Ms Aurjul Wilson, with assistance from the Principal Assistant Secretary, Mr. Kenneth Hodge.
The competition was sponsored by Digicel and the winning theme was unveiled by Ms. Kerchelle Jn Charles, Head of Commercial, at a meeting at the company’s sale store on Tuesday, April 1. “On behalf of the management and staff of Digicel Anguilla, we are very proud of this gesture,” she said. “Education is everybody’s business and we are honoured to be part of the empowerment of persons in Anguilla who are part of building…Anguilla. I would like to take this opportunity to applaud the Ministry of Home Affairs and, of course, the committee who put this together – and also all the participants who were part of the competition.”
Ms. Jn Charles presented Ms. Carty with a Samsung Galaxy Tablet 3 and a voucher for EC$500 worth of credit. Replying, Ms. Carty expressed pleasure to have taken part in the competition for the first time and to have won.
Mr. Kenneth Hodge expressed gratitude to Digicel which, through Ms. Jn Charles, had readily undertaken to sponsor the event. He said it was the third year that the National Celebrations Committee had sought and obtained sponsorship from the corporate community. He was also grateful for the eleven entries the committee had received from members of the public for the competition – all of which were of a high quality.
Speaking on behalf of the National Celebrations Committee, Ms. Wilson thanked Digicel for its sponsorship; Mr. Hodge for overseeing the competition for the theme, and members of the public for the entries they submitted.
