UWI Open Campus StudentsThe University of the West Indies Open Campus is pleased to announce the addition of several new online programmes for the 2015/2016 academic year. Among the new offerings to be launched in August 2015 are the Bachelor of Science Management degree programmes in Entrepreneurship, Financial Management, Human Resource Management, Marketing and Tourism and Hospitality Management, as well as Political Science, Psychology and Sociology. UWI Open Campus is also inviting applications for the new Post Graduate programmes, including the Master of Science in Management and Educational Leadership & Management, as well as the Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership.

The new programmes serve as a complement to the existing cutting-edge and specially-crafted academic Certificate, Diploma, Undergraduate, Post Graduate programmes being offered online across the region. These include Certificate Studies in Criminology, Entrepreneurship, Human Resource Management, Tourism & Hospitality Management in the Caribbean and Social Work, as well as Diploma and Associate Degrees in Youth Development Work, Health & Family Life Education Instruction, Social Work, Business Management and Paralegal Studies and Customs Management; while the Bachelors Programmes include Accounting, Banking and Finance, Management Studies, Youth Development Work and Education.

Catering to those who may want to continue their studies without incurring the financial costs of travelling overseas, the Online Campus of the UWI, brings its fully accredited programmes to the student, presenting young school leavers as well as mature and other professionals with the cost-effective opportunity to pursue their educational goals while continuing to carry out their employment and family responsibilities and commitments.

Manager for the UWI Open Campus British Overseas Territories, Dr. Phyllis Fleming-Banks, is encouraging the general population to take advantage of the opportunity to improve their academic skills and gain professional accreditation through the various Open Campus programmes. The Open Campus is the fourth Campus of the UWI and provides the unique opportunity for residents of the campus and non-campus countries in particular, to gain UWI accreditation without leaving home, she says. She also notes that the University is particularly pleased to introduce its Prior Learning Assessment Programme which allows an individual to use the learning experience gained from work and on-the-job training and other courses for the early completion of an undergraduate degree in record time and at reduced cost.

Mindful of the varied needs and circumstances, Dr. Fleming-Banks also points out that the University also provides the opportunity for persons who may not be ready to embark on an entire programme to register as “Specially Admitted Students”. This would allow for the completion of one or more courses that they can later build on to gain a Certificate, Diploma or Degree.

While applications are now open for these online programmes slated for the new academic year, the general public can also take advantage of Summer offerings, including Conversational Spanish, Supervisory Management, Introduction to Psychology, Counselling, Improving Your Math Skills and the English Language Proficiency Test. Improving Your Math Skills and the English Language Proficiency Test are for those who may not have completed these subjects at the required level for entrance into UWI or any other University.

Interested persons are encouraged to explore the various offerings online at www.open.uwi.edu or call the Anguilla Site office 264-497-8156 or email anguilla@open.uwi.edu for more information.
