With the start of the softball season, there is another opportunity for lovers of the game, and sports in general, to spend pleasurable past times on the island – and in this particular case at Coronation Park on Friday and Sunday evenings.
The Anguilla Amateur Softball Association Tournament commenced on Sunday, March 8, for male teams. Members of the Spanish community, who have relatives in Anguilla, dominated the number of players on the park. Fully attired in uniforms, the male teams gathered at The Valley Roundabout awaiting a police escort for their march to the playing field, but eventually strolled down on their own after the escort did not arrive.
The first game was Red vs. Orange with Red winning the match. The second game involved Blue vs. Yellow but was incomplete as the lights went out before the match finished.
The Softball Association has the following executive officials: Owen Mussington, President; Wilson Richardson, Vice President; Pat Hodge, Secretary/Treasurer; Elvys Castro, Assistant Secretary/Treasurer; and Calvin Hughes, Public Relations Officer.
“We are asking the general public to come out and support softball as the games are all very exciting,” the Association’s executive officials stated in a press release.
