At 9:10 pm on Sunday 8th March, 2015 members of the RAPF responded to a distress report in the Cinnamon Reef/Little Harbour area after a 38 year old female passenger was knocked from the motor vessel she was traveling in.
A search of the immediate area by the police proved to be futile. At about 9:10 am on today’s date Monday 9th March, 2015 the victim’s husband and friend along with members of the Marine Unit found the victim on the reefs some 150 meters outside of the Little Harbour/Lockrum area.
The victim who suffered some bruises and obvious shock was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital via the ambulance where she remains warded.
The Commissioner of Police will like to take this opportunity to appeal to all persons travelling to and from St. Martin/St. Maarten using fishing boats to use the ports of entry assigned for that purpose and to cease using the beaches. He further re-iterated that by doing so they expose themselves and their passengers to the many dangers that exist since most of the beaches are surrounded by reefs. The Commissioner is also appealing to all persons travelling on fishing boat to wear life vest at all time to ensure their own safety when there is a mishap such as this particular incident.
